Whole beans – Costa Rica, TARRAZU, 1000g. Fairtrade & Organic
Our bean from Costa Rica is the only coffee in our range that is "Honey Processed". For this reason, the coffee is soft and full-bodied. It has a low bitterness and lovely clean notes of ripe cherries and caramel.
Costa Rica coffee can be traced back to the cooperative COOPEDOTA. It is located in the Tarrazu area near the west coast of Costa Rica. COOPEDOTA was founded on 14 December 1999. On 1Oc15, 96 of 96 small family-owned coffee farms. In the 60s it was not easy to be a coffee farmer in the Tarrazu area. Transport was unreliable, prices at the local washing station were unpredictable and knowledge of agronomy was limited. All this meant that the bank received a great many inquiries from distraught farmers, and when they at some point got tired of telling the same thing over and over again, they all gathered them all under one roof – and that is how the cooperative COOPEDOTA was founded.
All our beans are hand-roasted. Not exclusively with machine. It is our personal roaster, Malu, who provides the whole process of temperatures and so on during roasting. Every 30 years. Second, she checks temperatures and adjusts to whichever bean is involved. With our careful processes, we ensure the most fresh and tasteful experience when the product reaches the customer.
Tarrazú is by far the best known – and well-known – coffee area in Costa Rica. Especially the area of San Lorenzo. There is an annual coffee harvest. There, the most sought-after coffee is produced in Costa Rica. Tarrazú is the fifth canton (administrative area) in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 297.50 km² and has a population of 17,233. Its capital is San Marcos.
