Step into a world where art lives and breathes—the National Gallery of Denmark is a treasure chest holding centuries of beauty and creativity. In the heart of Copenhagen, where past and present meet, the museum opens its doors to a journey through art history, from mysterious medieval works to iconic modern masterpieces.

With its impressive collection—including works by great masters such as Rembrandt, Hammershøi, and Picasso—SMK is not just a museum; it is an adventure, where every gallery and every painting tells a story waiting to be discovered. Come, explore, and let art guide you through the layers of time.
Here’s a story the museum guards at SMK like to share with a twinkle in their eye—a kind of Hans Christian Andersen’s “Clumsy Hans” meets conceptual art.

One day, a middle-aged man from the provinces—we’ll call him Jørgen from Herning—visited the National Gallery of Denmark. He was on a weekend trip with his wife, had already seen the Little Mermaid, Tivoli, and now it was time for “something with art and the capital.”
Jørgen wasn’t used to modern art. He preferred recognizable subjects: landscapes, cows, maybe a lighthouse. Still, he wandered around with curiosity, until he suddenly stopped in front of a piece in the modern section:
A sheet of white paper taped to the wall. On it was written:
“This work only comes into being when someone asks a question.”
Jørgen read it, nodded… and said out loud:
“Well then. How much does it cost?”
A museum attendant nearby nearly jumped—because, according to the artwork’s concept, Jørgen’s question had just activated the piece. A crowd began to gather. The intention was that the work would only “come alive” once an intellectual dialogue was initiated.
But Jørgen—who simply thought he might be able to buy something to take home—had now unofficially inaugurated the artwork, and received applause from a group of art students. He looked puzzled and asked:
“So that was it? It became art because I asked the price?”
A young art historian, thrilled, replied:
“Exactly! You asked the right question without even knowing it!”
Jørgen scratched his head, smiled a little, and said:
“Well… if I’d known it was that easy, I’d have brought my old garden tractor and put it in here. Plenty of people wonder about that too.”

With over 300 years of coffee tradition, Indonesia is home to some of the world’s most distinctive origins. From North Sumatra’s highlands comes Lintong, crafted through the island’s unique giling basah process, where beans are partially wet-hulled before drying under the sun. The result is a cup that’s as exotic as its origin: a buttery body with lively acidity, unfolding in layers of cassis, rhubarb, and herbal notes.

Altitude: 1.000-1.600 m.a.s.l
